About Nail Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a chronic skin disease characterized by red, scaly patches. 10 to 50 percent of people with skin psoriasis also suffer from nail psoriasis. You can have nail psoriasis on your fingernails and/or toenails.
What Are Signs I Have Nail Psoriasis?
The most common signs of nail psoriasis are:
- Nail rippling
- Nail pitting (tiny holes)
- Nail color changes
- Crumbling or splitting of the nail
- Separation of the nail from the nail bed
What Are the Psoriasis Nail Treatments?
Generally, the treatments for nail psoriasis are the same as they are for skin psoriasis. If you are being treated for skin psoriasis, your nail psoriasis should respond to that treatment. Keep in mind, though, that nails take months to over a year to grow out so it it will take some time to see the results from any treatment.
Dr. Strausburg will let you know the best treatment for you at the time of your appointment.
