What Is A Board Certified Dermatologist?
A dermatologist is a medical doctor who specializes in treating skin problems, hair and scalp problems as well as nail problems. The dermatology specialty involves four years of undergraduate study, four years of medical school and, finally, a four year dermatology residency. Upon completion of the dermatology training, the dermatologist then must successfully complete a rigorous series of examinations to become board certified by the American Board of Dermatology. Only then is a physician considered a specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the skin, hair, scalp and nails.
