What is a Panniculectomy?

A panniculectomy is the surgical removal of a pannus. Also called an abdominal apron, a pannus is the medical term for a large amount of excess, hanging abdominal skin and fat which can be present after massive weight loss. Not only do people not like the way that it looks, it is often uncomfortable.

A panniculectomy differs from a tummy tuck as there is no tightening the muscles of the stomach when the skin and fat is removed. A panniculectomy can be combined with a tummy tuck if desired.
