Liposuction Traditional and Tumescent
Inherited traits often prevent people from achieving their desired body shape. Even years of exercise may not yield significant or noticeable results in certain people. For many, the answer is liposuction which is also called liposculpture. Liposuction is a surgical procedure that extracts fat from specific areas of the body, including the face, neck, stomach, hips, thighs, buttocks, arms, and calves. Following the liposuction procedure at our Indianapolis practice, patients can expect a slimmer, shapelier figure.

Who is a Good Candidate for the Liposuction Procedure?
The best candidates for liposuction are those patients who have areas of fat deposits with good skin tone. This allows the treated areas to “snap back,” or re-contour, after the fat is removed. Those with pre-existing skin laxity may require other procedures instead of liposuction (like a tummy tuck), to remove the skin and excess fat.
The Tumescent Liposuction Procedure
Tumescent liposuction surgery is essentially the same as traditional liposuction with one exception. In tumescent liposuction, fluid is introduced to the areas of fat to be liposuctioned prior to beginning the suctioning. This fluid is a mixture that contains saline, epinephrine, and local anesthetic. This fluid helps to reduce pain and bleeding and also helps the surgeon remove the fat more easily. This results in less bruising and an easier recovery.
After Liposuction Surgery
Following liposuction surgery at our Indianapolis practice, an elastic bandage is applied in order to reduce swelling. Patients return to work after a few days. A return to full activities can be expected within two weeks. Temporary numbness to the treated areas will resolve over several weeks.
You will be able to see your new figure soon after surgery and swelling and bruising will resolve within a few weeks of the liposuction procedure.
