Resolve to Take Better Care of Your Skin
2009 is the year for resolving to revitalize and renew your skin. There is no better time to start than in the winter since the harsh weather and low humidity are especially hard on your skin. If you suffer from dry, irritated winter skin with flaking or even cracking, we offer these simple tips:- Moisturize frequently. Don't forget your elbows, heels, neck and decolletage.
- Use a moisturizing broad-spectrum sunscreen (one that works on both UVA and UVB rays) with at least 15 SPF on any exposed skin surfaces. At Phases™ Skin Care and Laser Center, we offer a number of sunscreen products that will protect your skin from the aging effects of the sun.
- Wear gloves to protect your hands from the elements.
- Remove wet gloves and socks as soon as possible after exposure.
- Use lip balm frequently and make sure it contains a sun block.
- Shower in lukewarm water instead of hot. Hot water robs your skin of moisture. If you must use hot water, cut down the amount of time you spend in the shower.
- Use a gentle body wash rather than a harsh soap or shower gel. Phases has several body washes that are not irritating to your skin. Talk to your aesthetician about which one is right for you.
- Exfoliate to remove dead skin cells.
- Consider adding a Clarisonic Skin Care Brush to your skin care regime. Clarisonic is available at Phases and will help remove dry patches from your face and body.
- Don't smoke. Smoking impairs your circulation and makes your skin look gray and dull as well as increases fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth.

Sunscreens Fight Signs of Aging
Protecting your skin from the sun helps prevent premature aging. Repeated exposure to the sun over the years can cause noticeable changes in the skin such as freckles, age spots, rough and leathery skin, fine lines, wrinkles and others. People who get a lot of sun can show signs of aging as early as in their 20s. When you are younger, the signs of sun aging usually lie under the skin and are invisible to the naked eye for years. However, our VISIA Complexion Analysis camera shows what damage lies beneath the skin's surface before it appears.
It is important that you apply sunscreen daily, year round. Remember that the sun is more reflective on snow than it is on sand! Apply it liberally 20 to 30 minutes before going outside on all exposed skin. It should be reapplied frequently, even in the winter, when performing outdoor activities.
Many of our skin care products contain a sunscreen. It is advisable to use these products along with our sunscreens for additional protection from the sun.
