Phases Director interviewed in Indianapolis Woman Magazine
Susan Barnes, who is the director of our skin and laser center, Phases, was recently interviewed in Indianapolis Woman magazine in the article Summer Skin SOS. The following is an excerpt:
"After a sunburn, your skin goes into "wound response mode," says Susan Barnes, medical aesthetician and manager of Phases at Turkle & Associates.
Your body releases melanocytes to help protect from radiation from the sun," she says.
Over time, excessive sun exposure can lead to wrinkles, dryness, hyperpigmentation and, of course, melanoma and other forms of skin cancer. Those on birth control and in perimenopause can be more sensitive to the sun and more susceptible to melasma, a hard-to-treat form of hyperpigmentation, Barnes says."

Lipotherapy Fat Reduction Now Available at
Turkle & Associates
We have found that many people have specific areas of fat that do not respond to diet or exercise. Lipotherapy has been developed to dissolve this fat through a series of micro-injections. These injections contain substances that cause the fat to dissolve and be flushed from the body. These injections will only be given by specially trained members of our staff under the direction of Dr. Turkle.
Lipotherapy is best for spot reduction of fat, for example, the love handles, saddlebags, or the back. It is a non-surgical procedure that does not require general anesthesia or down-time. The ideal candidate is a person that is in good health, exercises regularly, is within 25 lbs. of their ideal body weight, and has deposits of fat that have not responded to exercise.
If you would like more information about lipotherapy, please contact our Indianapolis practice today.

Clinical Trial of Breast Implants Indianapolis Carmel Indiana
Turkle & Associates is pleased to announce that Dr. Janet K. Turkle is one of a limited number of plastic surgeons in the U.S. now enrolling patients in a clinical trial of breast implants in Indianapolis and Carmel Indiana. The implant is the Inamed 410 Cohesive Gel Breast Implant.
The FDA has approved enrollment of additional breast implant patients in the clinical research study over the next six months. The clinical trials are open to patients seeking a first time breast augmentation, breast reconstruction and revision.
Eligibility for these breast implants, sometimes called "gummy bear" breast implants, can only be determined after an in-person consultation.
Although cohesive gel breast implants have been widely used in Europe since 1994, the FDA requires a large-scale clinical study be conducted in the United States before giving these implants final approval.
Instead of the implants being filled with saline or a liquid silicone gel, the 410 cohesive gel breast implants are filled with a cohesive silicone that is described as a "soft solid". Therefore, one of the main advantages of the breast implants is that they seem to retain their shape.
Although this is a clinical study, the usual breast augmentation charges apply. All costs, including the services of the surgeon and the cost of the implants, are the responsibility of the patients participating in the study.
Turkle & Associates provides a variety of saline and silicone breast implants for the patient not interested in considering a cohesive gel breast implant.
